Sunny Ceilings Funny Feelings

HE:
More casual maths that she just chucks into the daily mix. Conversations about many kinds of sea-creatures (she got up after half an hour of being in bed last night and stayed up watching the big visually stunning sea documentary (Deep Blue), snuggled between me and J and eating rice from my plate). Calendar, days, times, seasons - discussed. Talked about prisms and light a bit. She helped with cooking a bit recently too. Will be re-establishing our 2-weekly pattern of activities/visits again over the next month - it disappeared over summer. Music and Movement starts again today, with F in the 4-5 yr age group now. See how that goes.

Life:
We all went to the local raft race. Jack came too and we met Glo and Shula down there. The raft race was very entertaining, much egg-throwing, flour-bomb and water-bomb chucking, water-spraying and clowning around, and it was a beautiful day for it. Some innovative and impractical raft designs too. Much speculation on whether they would actually make it past the first bend in the river and indeed whether they were even intended to. Then Jack came with us to have a leisurely pizza. Glo and Shula are now just over a week away from meeting the 2 siblings that they hope to adopt and are quite stressed over putting together their family book and video. They are nervous about whether the children will like/accept them and how hard that is going to be. Things will be better after they actually start the process, meet the children and spend time with them I think. Really felt for them, it's such a strange time for them.
F was very well-behaved throughout, really '4-yr old' - the pizza place provided a little activity pack and she worked her way through it with occasional assistance, and ate pizza and ice-cream. It was a lovely day actually, and for me, after all the plans that had to be cancelled all summer due to illness and other factors, it was so nice to have planned this and then have it happen as planned. Also we discovered the local nature reserve by the river, which will be another option for future walks and such. I imagine there are events there too, some potential educational involvement.

And yes, the other day, I had a whole conversation with my lisping child about sunny ceilings (she was lying at the top of the stairs looking up at the patterns of sun coming through the window at the time) and then found out at the end that I had been talking about sunny ceilings and she had been talking about funny feelings. I thought her questions were a bit quirky.
