F has been writing (started a book of short stories yesterday) and drawing (currently doing some pictures of Japanese animated film characters I think) quite a lot. Her drawing style has changed again slightly, she seems to be planning pictures more and having a more detailed vision that she is trying to get onto the paper. She's also been playing Leapster and DS (Animal Crossing is now back in favour), watching Blue Peter and some recorded 'Hole in the Wall' and 'Doctor Who' (she decided to watch the 'Midnight' episode - it scared her the first time and she's never been back to it since), and 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. Also asking me how to spell 'quack' (suddenly noticed she can/does say the 'k' sound now - it was 't' for so long) and what the picture on the cover of New Scientist was about ('The Folly of Growth'!!).

This week's Woodcraft Folk session was a circus skills workshop, which was much enjoyed by all the kids and adults too. It was well managed - started with a quick demonstration of things to do with all the different items of equipment (juggling balls, clubs, spinning plates, various sticks to do things with, hoops, a couple of pedal-go things, one unicycle, Rola Bola, wigs(!), diabolos, etc.). Then we were all allowed to play for just over an hour. It was completely free play - I was really impressed by how well everyone did in terms of not hogging the rarer items of equipment, taking turns, being mindful of space around them, older kids being careful of younger, etc. There was a serious amount of things being thrown, dropped, spun, pedalled in quite a full hall and the workshop leader didn't have to shout 'Stop!' once. She and her assistant wandered and helped and were great.
F was quite shy at first but did have a go at most things in the end, particularly liking the pedal-go thing (occupational therapy I couldn't help thinking!). She had a quick chat with E at the beginning - E arrived in a bit of a shy mood and went straight under the nearest table! So F joined her. They pretty much ignored each other once the session got going.
I felt really glad that we've joined Woodcraft, they do seem a good bunch. I often find myself thinking 'very home ed' about the way they operate!

Home day today with quite a lot of work on plus a lot of washing to get through.
